Building Education Amid Crisis
When war closed school doors across Darfur, education didn’t stop, it actually transformed. Classera, in strategic partnership with the Darfur Regional Government, ALECSO, and Microsoft Azure, launched "Learning Never Stops" and “Smarter Learning” Initiative. This initiative turned a humanitarian crisis into an opportunity to reimagine how education can reach and uplift even the most isolated communities.
The Challenge
Decades of armed conflict decimated education in Darfur. In April 2023 alone, renewed violence forced millions of children, many in refugee and IDP camps, out of school. With schools destroyed, teachers displaced, and no infrastructure or safe routes available, displaced students faced unprecedented risks of illiteracy and exploitation.
The Solution, A Strategic, MultiPlatform Response
Classera responded with five purpose-built learning platforms:
-
“Learning Never Stops”: A digital lifeline for displaced and out-of-school youth.
-
Smart Sudanese School Platform: Digitizing formal education across primary and secondary schools.
-
Virtual Realistic School Model: A hybrid classroom experience inspired by Egypt’s success.
-
“Education for Peace” Initiative: Supporting higher education institutions in Darfur as agents of reconciliation.
-
Platform for Sudanese Universities & Colleges: Enabling remote learning, content digitization, and academic management.
These tools became the technological backbone of education restoration across five Darfur states.
Vision in Action: Infrastructure and Inclusion
Free and Equitable Access: Tens of thousands of tablets, learning centers, and educators were mobilized, supported by digital infrastructure and cloud-based learning so that technology became both the means and the message of equity.
Connectivity Everywhere: Classera deployed a layered internet solution, leveraging local telecoms, satellite (Starlink), and full sponsorship by King Salman Humanitarian Aid Center, to ensure no learner was left offline.
On-the-Ground Reach: In 77 IDP camps, over 100,000 students and 500 teachers re-engaged with learning. Digital transformation centers, smart classrooms, offline library access, and remote mentoring reactivated entire communities.
Empowerment Through Innovation: Adaptive offline learning, gamified engagement via Classera Inspire, and teacher dashboards helped students thrive even in low-connectivity environments. Real-time monitoring gave educational leaders full visibility across the region.

Lasting Impact & Renewed Hope
This initiative helped restore not just classrooms, but futures. Young learners, especially girls, returned to learning under a strict 50/50 inclusion policy. Families witnessed the return of structure and hope. Educational infrastructures were revitalized. Teachers regained purpose. In places where education was once extinct, digital learning sparked revival.
